This is important information prior to know prior to the event.
Along with the narrative and maps in the booklet that will be provided, we also have the following measures to guide you safely along the route;
We have a list of all of the walkers with their walk number and mobile phone number. We will;
Tick you on the list when you get on the bus.
Tick you on the list when you leave the Start / Trout at Tadpole Bridge
Tick you on the list when you get to to the Swan / Plough / Trout and at the finish line
We can then trace where you have gone missing and call your mobile phone
Our 'route sweep team' will follow behind all the walkers and ensure everyone makes it through each section
The booklet has useful numbers on the back to call should you have any issues. We will be mobile in my car complete with First aiders and first aid kit.
The Thames Walk can be quite remote and we have to rely on the vagaries of the weather in the UK. I have listed some do's and dont's that are useful.
Bring a fully charged mobile, the phone you told us you would be bringing
Check the weather forecast beforehand
Bring useful kit such as water, food, wet weather gear, camera, suncream, plasters etc.
Wear good walking boots / shoes and suitable clothing
Keep your walk number visible so we can track your progress
Ensure you are 'walk fit' as this is a testing 12 mile walk, that could be difficult for some people
Refer to the maps and narrative in the booklet to avoid getting lost
Follow the signs, marshaller directions and keep to the Thames Path, unless directed away
Close all gates behind you
Avoid swans and cattle if possible
Bring money / cards to spend at the pub plus extra for the raffle at the finish (great prizes)
Ensure you visit every pub on the route to get ticked on the list
Divert from the route
Be late for your coach
All of these procedures are put in place to ensure you complete the route safely. It also ensures that we have procedures in place in the event of an incident.
Thank you - Dave and Marina
