Thames Challenge 2019 - Saturday 7th September 2019!!!!!

Updated - Friday 14th September 2018

Welcome to the Thames Challenge website.

So, the Thames Challenge 2018 event has happened. The walkers parked for free courtesy of Riverside Park in Lechlade. Jamie and Jason ensured that all of the walkers parked up and boarded the correct coach. They were then tranported to the lovely Trout at Tadpole Bridge and met by Camilla, Steve, Marina and I. We issued event tee shirts, booklets and walk numbers, then set them off in small groups to avoid large groups turning up at the next pub.

Many of the walkers had purchased the tee shirts produced by Print Ready in Witney, specifically for the walk. They looked brilliant and were a great advert for the charity and the event.

The next pub is the Olde Swan at Radcot (1 hour 20 minute walk) and they very kindly put on a band to entertain the walkers. Many stayed there for a while enjoying the beer garden, alcohol, food and tthe music. Pam, Maureen and other members of our team ensured they arrived at and departed the pub safely.

After another hour, the walkers arrrived at another great pub, the Plough at Kelmscott. They also supported our event by providing a great band playing in their beer garden. Cher, Nige and Cadets from Witney Air Cadets safely marshalled the walkers away from the river, through the village and to the pub. They also ensured they made it safely back onto the Thames Path.

One more hour walking brought them to yet another great pub, the Trout Inn, which is only 20 minutes from the finish line. Liz, Jackie and more Cadets, safely directed everyone to and from the pub.

There was then a last 20 minute stroll to the finish line at the Riverside Inn at Lechlade. Marina and I had set up the finish line and our friends John and Gillie Coghlan, presented medals to the walkers. John was the drummer with Status Quo on their greatest hits and very kindly agreed to hand out the medals. John still plays with his own band 'John Coghlans Quo' who are excellent. I highly recommend that you check out their website and go to see them.

Craig Titchener from Arkells and Marc and Rachael at the Riverside were fantastic supporters of the walk. They allowed us to set up there, provided tea and coffee, paid for the band and provided presents for the raffle.

Due to the band we had booked, having to cancel on the day, we would like to thank the band (Doctor Robert), who were playing at the Swan, for setting up again at the Riverside and saving the day!

Finally, we held the raffle, which raised nearly £900 for the charity. A list of the prizes, who provided them and the winners are on our raffle page of this website.

We received grants from Airtanker and the Station Charity Committee. Along with this plus raffle ticket sales, donations and sponsorship we have received £3,200 so far with more sponsorship money to come. You can still donate to this event using this link

Everyone said they had an amazing day and have persuaded us too repeat the event. We have a planned date of SATURDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER 2019. Keep monitoring this website for updates and when you can start to register.

I have some photographs from tthe event on the Slideshow page. If you took part in the event, please e mail them to and we will add them to this page.

Thank you for taking part, your donations and hopefully see you at next years event.
